The M4F project brings together the fusion and fission materials communities, to work on the integration of modeling and experiments at different scales, for the prediction of the effects of irradiation on the mechanical behaviour of ferritic/martensitic (F/M) steels, which are candidate structural materials for future fission and fusion reactors.
It is a multidisciplinary project in which several different materials science tools are integrated to understand and model complex phenomena associated with the formation and evolution of irradiation induced defects and their effects on the macroscopic behaviour of the material.
The M4F structure comprises three main domains, two of technical nature and the third one for project coordination and data management, dissemination, and cross-fertilization issues
- Domain 1: Microstructure evolution
- Domain 2: Plastic flow localisation and Nanoindentation
- Domain 3: Coordination, dissemination and cross-fertilisation
