The INSPYRE Final International Workshop was held on November 17 and 18, 2021 in a hybrid format. 65 participants attended this workshop, 38 on site at the Intercontinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu and 27 online.
It gathered INSPYRE participants and project officer, members of the User Group and of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the project, as well as colleagues from Westinghouse, OntarioTech University, Idaho and Los Alamos National Laboratories.
After an introductory talk by INSPYRE coordinator, 19 technical presentations were given on the four main topics of INSPYRE research activities:
- Thermochemical behaviour of uranium-plutonium mixed oxides (MOX) nuclear fuels
- Thermomechanical behaviour of UO2 and MOX fuels
- Atomic transport properties and fission gas behaviour in UO2 and MOX fuels
- Improvement of fuel performance codes and application of post-INSPYRE versions of the codes to the simulation of ESNII prototypes.
These presentations showed the impressive results obtained during the projects. These results have substantially expanded the knowledge on mixed oxide fuels and enabled significant progress in the simulation of their in-pile behaviour.
The EERA-JPNM, to which the INSPYRE activities contribute, was also presented by the coordinator Lorenzo Malerba.
Finally, a presentation of the status of MOX fuel research in Europe, fast reactor research and operation and the perspectives of INSPYRE, as well as a synthesis of the presentations and exchanges concluded the workshop.
We wish to thank all the speakers and participants for their expertise and enthusiasm, which made this workshop a success!
